Influencer Marketing: How do I set up and use Two-Factor Authentication?

Table of Contents

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an additional layer of security that requires users to verify themselves using a second factor after entering their username and password. As part of Sprout Social Influencer Marketing's effort to be an industry leader in data security, you can choose between two methods of 2FA: SMS (text message) or an authenticator app.

With Influencer Marketing, your password serves as one factor and the second factor is a code sent either through text or generated by a mobile device.

How does 2FA work in Influencer Marketing?

When you log into Influencer Marketing, you’ll be asked for a second authenticating factor. Influencer Marketing supports two methods of 2FA:

  1. Text Message - A one-time token sent live to your verified phone number.
  2. Authenticator App - Time-based, one-time passwords (OTPs) generated by an application on your mobile phone.

Both methods use short, unique six digit codes that are valid for a short period of time.

How to Set Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)?

You can choose to set up 2FA using either an SMS text message or a mobile authenticator app. All methods are configured through your User Settings.

Note: Influencer Marketing Admins can require 2FA as mandatory for the whole organization.

  1. Click your User Icon (profile picture or initials) in the navigation bar.
  2. Click Settings from the dropdown menu.
  3. Navigate to the Security tab.
  4. Enter your current Influencer Marketing password and click Next to confirm your identity.
  5. Select Two-Factor Authentication.
  6. Select your preferred 2FA method and click Continue: Text message or Authenticator App.

Set up 2FA via Text Message

This method relies on your mobile phone number to receive a one-time six-digit code via SMS.

  1. Enter a valid phone number, including the full country code, and click Next.
  2. A text message containing a six-digit code will be sent to the entered phone number.
  3. Enter the code into the Authenticator Code pop-up and click Next.
  4. If you do not receive the code within a moment, click Resend.
  5. Proceed to the final step of saving your recovery codes.

Set up 2FA via Authenticator App

This method requires a third-party app that supports Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) tokens. Examples include Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or OTP Auth.

  1. Download a compatible authentication app of your choice to your smartphone and click Continue.
  2. Open the mobile app and use your phone's camera to scan the QR code displayed on the Influencer Marketing screen.
  3. Alternatively, you can manually type the secret code provided underneath the QR code into your app.
  4. Your authenticator app will now generate a six-digit, time-sensitive code.
  5. Enter this code into the Authenticator Code pop-up on the Influencer Marketing screen. Click Next.
  6. Proceed to the final step of saving your recovery codes.

Recovery Codes

After successfully setting up 2FA, you will be shown a list of eight unique recovery codes.

  1. Save your recovery codes by clicking Download or Copy.
  2. Store these codes in a secure, offline location, such as a password manager.
  3. Each recovery code can only be used once to log in if you lose access to your phone or authenticator app.

Logging In with Two-Factor Authentication

Once 2FA is successfully configured, you will be prompted to enter a second-factor code every time you attempt to log in to Influencer Marketing.

  • You will enter your username and password as the first factor.
  • You will then be asked for the second factor: either the code generated by your authenticator app or the code sent via text message.
  • If you cannot access your mobile device, click the link to use a Recovery Code instead.
